The 7 podcasts all entrepreneurs should be listening to
Start your own business, they said. It'll be great, they said.
I am now hurtling towards my thirteenth year as an entrepreneur and what a ride it's been so far! You often hear people talk about the rollercoaster you jump on when you make the decision to control your own career destiny and if you are reading this you will know there is a lot of truth in them there words.
Most of us know the risks can be overwhelming but the rewards plentiful. And, whilst a lot of your time as a business-owner is spent fumbling in the dark (and fumble you must) hoping to remain warm and upright, I have found that it is always good to have some back up along the way.
At the last count, there were over 2,000,000 podcast shows, and I've spent many a power walk trying to find the good ones. If my step count is anything to go by, I'd say my research was pretty thorough so, without wasting any more of your time on an unnecessary intro, read on for 7 of my favourites:
The Brendon Show - Episodes include "Health and productivity habits", "Use your mind to improve your day" and "How to develop discipline" and range in length from 3 minutes to over an hour. Brendon's ambitious and fearless approach is great for relighting the motivational fires and helping gain perspective (hell, yes I hear ye entrepreneurs shout).
The Life Coach School - If internal struggles are your thing, Brookes Castillo uses her personal experience and skills to open thought-provoking discussion on a number of subjects that, as an entrepreneur, you may battle with. Personal favourites include "Because I want to" and "Leading when you're scared".
The Tim Ferris Show - from the author of Tools of Titans and The 4-hour Workweek, Tim Ferris brings a show featuring the most successful entrepreneurs of our generation each of who share their journey and "head-on" strategies for the career challenges they have faced.
On Purpose with Jay Shetty - for those of you seeking a little more depth in your daily life, he of Think Like a Monk fame is on-hand to highlight the importance of mental health and well-being. A true entrepreneur's survival guide, featuring guests including Deepak Chopra, Martha Beck and Arianna Huffington, the episodes are both insightful and inspirational.
The Goal Digger - Jenna Kutcher offers practical, actionable strategies for moving your business forward as well as opening the floor for discussions on ADHD & Women Entrepreneurs and toxic money mindsets. A prolific podcaster since 2017, there is a library of over 450 episodes for you to feast on whenever the need for motivation arises.
How to Fail - oh how I love this show! Every entrepreneur needs down-time, and when you finally have a moment to podcast-and-chill, I cannot recommend this one highly enough. With amazing guest introductions that inspire you to live your greatest life (in the hope that Elizabeth Day might one day write one for you) and tales of failures, success and the lessons learned along the way, How to Fail is a must-listen, especially the episodes with Phoebe Waller-Bridge of Killing Eve and Fleabag fame.
Mad World with Bryony Gordon - in times of late, our mental health has become a front-runner issue and sharing our experiences has become another invaluable tool at our disposal. With social taboo firmly lifted, you can look forward to interviews with a litany of celebrities including Jessica Ennis-Hill, Hunter Biden and Douglas Stuart (serious fan, right here) , each providing a window into their innermost thoughts, this show seeks to tackle issues such as struggles with addition, childhood trauma and postnatal depression.
So, the next time you pull on your walking shoes or you're driving to your next meeting, download one of these amazing podcasts and take a moment for yourself because growth is the new green light. You're welcome.
